From Camera-Shy to Confident: A Soulful Engagement at the Nebraska State Capitol

From Camera-Shy to Confident: A Soulful Engagement at the Nebraska State Capitol

There is a common myth…..

that you need to be a “natural” in front of the lens to get those breathtaking, editorial shots you see in magazines.

I’m here to tell you, as an photographer, who lives for the raw and the unposed, and for the real deep stories, that is simply not true.

Take this recent Lincoln, Nebraska engagement at the iconic Nebraska State Capitol.

When this couple reached out for their September wedding journey, there was a layer of nerves. They had never done professional photos before, and that “first-time” anxiety is something I take very seriously.

Breaking the Silence with Rhythm and Movement

My philosophy for Lea and Benjaman Photography is built on creating an environment where you can actually feel like yourselves. We don’t do stiff, traditional posing that makes you feel like a statue.

  • Setting the Vibe: We started the afternoon with a curated playlist. Music is a bridge; it fills the space and lets the awkwardness evaporate.

  • The Art of Movement: Instead of “look here and smile,” I guided them through fluid movements. We focused on how they naturally lean into one another.

  • The Result: When you stop performing for the camera and start connecting with your partner, the “photography” happens almost by accident.

Lincoln, Nebraska's Love Birds own words:

Working with Klohe, for engagement pics was such a joy! I've never had professional photos before and was super anxious about it. She had music going and helped my fiance and I get into different movements to capture the best shots. I usually don't love photos of myself, but Klohe's photography skills definitely changed that. It was hard narrowing down photos because she captured so many great ones. Thank you for capturing our love!

Why the Nebraska State Capitol is a Local Gem

For a Lincoln, Nebraska engagement photographer, the Capitol is more than just a building, it’s a textural masterpiece. The way the September light catches the limestone creates a museum-quality backdrop that elevates a simple walk into a cinematic moment. It is the perfect location for couples who want their love story documented with a touch of grandeur and a lot of soul.

The Legacy Beyond the Digital:

While these photos look incredible on a screen, they were captured with the intention of becoming physical history. Narrowing them down is hard because every raw moment tells a different part of the story, which is exactly why I advocate for archival prints that live on your walls, not just your hard drive.
